December the First.
Dec. 1st, 2022 10:10 pmDue to the good luck of being at the right place in the right time, I got to see Steve-O's "The Bucket List" show on tour tonight. It was a better use of the evening than sitting at home, no matter what it was I'd have been working on, simply because a huge crowd of people laughing together is a wonderful thing to be a part of. I know I helped.
He'll release it in some format at some point in the future, and there's not much to say when describing the stunts or why they were funny, especially since so much of it was because of the authentic crowd experience. I'll say that early on, he asked people not to yell out stuff during the show, to which someone yelled out, "This is New York!" His only recourse was to silently glare until people got the message.
One thing I'll say that probably delighted me more than anyone else in the audience is part of the background of a stunt rather than the stunt itself. To perform it, he needed the help of a licensed tandem skydiver. When none of his cold-calls to skydiving companies were fruitful, he cold-called his social media networks and got about 72 positive responses. Of those, maybe 52 backed out when he gave the details, and of the 20 that still thought it was a good idea, he picked the one person who'd said "please."
And when Steve-O was on stage describing this, he said, "We drove up to Davis, California -" My arms immediately flew up in the air in victory.
Where else, man. Where else.
