Principles.
May. 29th, 2026 10:01 pmThis evening, my younger brother R. expressed some consternation and confusion over the fact that I've got so much stuff on my hard drives, and that I've given them proper names instead of plain descriptions. They're not "2021-2024", they're Bixby Canyon and The Presidio and Napa Valley and Beverly Road, and he didn't quite understand why I want more storage space than I already have.
A little while ago, I put in a library hold for the DVD of the movie Kneecap, which is streaming on Netflix until the end of the month and might not get put up anywhere else for a while without having to pay a few dollars to rent it. Whereas if I get it from the library, I'll have it on a hard drive until time comes I'm ready to see it, and I'll keep having it if I want to watch it again. That's why I want the space.
Of course there's an XKCD strip for this. There usually is.
