For years, I didn't take Buffy the Vampire Slayer seriously. Not so much anymore.

I spent a good chunk of the afternoon sorting through a bunch of stuff in my apartment, trying to say goodbye to things. Some of it's been easy because I can accept I don't need this given sheet of paper, and some of it's not so much saying goodbye to the object as it's saying goodbye to what the object represents, like the books I bought in 2019 to give to people. The moments to give them never came. I can't keep hanging onto them thinking it might, much as I want to.

I've been clearing out socks with holes in the heel and the toe. I'm like to make inroads on other types of clothing, though I'm struggling to get started - it's easy to toss a pair of socks into the donation bag across the room and reach for another, and not so much with the various winter coats. On my bookshelves, it's mostly a few cookbooks and a couple other large hardbacks I can see letting go of, and the papers I haven't looked at since I set them aside are the ones giving me pain because it's hard to let go of what they represent. Both the idea I'll sit down and read them and their status as mementos.
