How it is.
Oct. 26th, 2024 10:20 pmIt was at least thirty minutes of waiting in line for early voting today, definitely upwards of an hour. I didn't keep track because I knew that wouldn't end well; I just knew it'd take a while, and settled in. It was a lovely autumn day, too, a proper one, and waiting outside with a breeze and leaves in full color against a hard blue sky plus a fence to lean against with a big fat doorstopper of a book is a pleasant way to go about it.
What also helped was that when someone came by to tell us we were going to vote, it'd just take a while, they were working as fast as they could, I asked - no issues, no technical problems, just lots and lots of people wanting to vote as early as possible.
The people in line around me smiled when they heard that, too.
The best part of the day was voting. It's in, I don't have to wait for November, I can breathe a little bit easier. The second best part was when one of the poll workers shouted, "FIRST TIME VOTER!" and everyone but everyone clapped and cheered.
