Mar. 15th, 2023 09:55 pmSometime in the last two weeks, my external CD/DVD drive stopped reading DVDs. It's still reading CDs fine; it's just DVDs that it can't recognize. This is putting a definite crimp in my plans for media consumption, because it's much easier to watch movies after I've ripped the DVDs and returned them to the library since I don't have to feel pressure to watch them within a given amount of time. And it's easier to blaze through TV shows when I have the whole thing ready and waiting.
I reinstalled both MakeMKV and VLC media player. I've updated a variety of drivers and restarted my computer and it's still not seeing that anything's there if I put in a movie. I'll poke at it again sometime tomorrow, but my hopes for it working in this specific respect are fairly low. That said, if the worst case scenario is I've burned this player out and I need a new one, I can live with that. It's lasted seven years. I can't argue I didn't get my money's worth.
