It's summer.
Rhubarb's been in the markets a while. Strawberries hit last week. The days are longer and warmer, the light sharper, the air fresher. Most flowers are out, with the wild grasses taking their place. I knew it was coming. And today, it hit.
Not just it being hotter today by a measurable, appreciable amount than the last few days.
Today I saw a sparrow panting. Birds don't sweat. They pant to cool off instead, and they only do that when it gets hot enough for them to need that kind of relief. It may have happened earlier, but today was the day I saw it.
Summertime.
