Call it our life.
Apr. 30th, 2021 11:41 amI spent a fair amount of time this month browsing
nightdog_barks's poetry tag, in part because it's national poetry month in the US, in part because she had good taste in poems and posted them pretty often, in part because I've been getting more into poetry these last few weeks, and in part because Dreamwidth has always had her birthday notification up when I logged into the site for the last couple of weeks.
When there's a lot of loss - of people, of time, of promised opportunities - it's easy to hang onto the small ones, the ones that can easily fit inside your head.
One poem I got from her I commissioned James Marsters to read - "Our Valley" by Philip Levine. She described it as "a beautiful poem about the places we call home." It's about the San Joaquin valley, and it's about the concept of home, and it's about understanding you never stay long anywhere. So you make your home where you find yourself.
It's a poem I read because I knew her.
