The mobbing murder was a bunch of crows going after a local hawk this afternoon. I heard them calling out and went to look, and then I saw what it was they were doing - that it wasn't just a few crows flying west in midafternoon, but a few crows deliberately coordinating themselves I haven't seen it happen here before, since the crows are newer to the neighborhood than the hawks.
To the best of my knowledge, it's not an omen for anything. It's just something that happens in nature. Read into it what you like - and if all that you read into it is the world can still have wonderful things in it, that's quite all right.
