The moving has come through.
Apr. 30th, 2019 10:10 pmYesterday, impulsively and against what was probably good judgment, I took home about 400 CDs. Give or take a few dozen. It didn't cost me any money - the guy I got them from just wanted them out of his apartment - and would've presumably donated them to a local library for their monthly book and media sale if someone hadn't claimed them on Nextdoor after a week or so. Which I did. So now they're mine.
Until I'm done ripping them, at which point I'll be the one donating them to the library. Aside from a handful of Mozart box set outliers, it's mostly British and American punk/rock/pop from the early 80s through the 90s. But it's a pretty deep dive into that small area, which I can at least appreciate on an intellectual level.
I'm just ripping everything at this point. There's some stuff I already had, like The Smiths and The Clash. There's a few bands I'm glad to finally get more of, like Travis and The The. I don't want to keep most of these as physical objects - a couple, sure, but let someone else go to the trouble of flipping these rare Morrissey import singles on eBay for what's probably going to be at least an 800% profit margin. And I figure, maybe I'll never listen to some stuff like the club dance remix compilations, but at least I'll have them in case I want to.
Except I'm skipping the techo albums. I know myself too well for that.
