Yesterday, a couple of people on my floor moved out of the building and wanted to sell everything they could part with before going. I didn't much need the furniture or mirrors, but what they did sell me has already been put to good use.

Dish soap, laundry detergent, flour, breadcrumbs, three kinds of salt, vanilla extract, vanilla paste, powdered sugar, a doormat, stain remover, herbs, spices, a handful of different seasoning blends, baking powder, cocoa powder, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, peanut butter, mustard, ice cream, eggs, butter, cheese, pasta, rice, half a pound of Dover sole, a couple of frozen dinners from Trader Joe's, nuts, rolled oats, vodka, Kahlua, white rum, half a bottle of wine, a tiny bottle of Fireball whisky, and a small frying pan. And I'm probably forgetting something.

I saw their apartment a few hours before they left, and they'd done well on stripping it down to the bones. Even their beds were gone.

It was easily the most like end-of-year dorm clean-out as I've experienced since college.
