Balancing.
Dec. 28th, 2016 09:19 pmMy first day of my new job, I forgot to set the alarm.
Thankfully, I've been setting it for the past couple of weeks in order to get used to waking up early, so I got up at a fairly reasonable time. I was able to get myself and all my stuff together and get out the door without having to rush, but only by skipping breakfast.
Then I got to the job's neighborhood with enough time to stop and buy a breakfast egg sandwich at a corner deli to eat before arriving almost exactly on time. I got a free desk calendar, too, just for buying the egg sandwich.
Because my job's dependent on the computer, the scanner, and the software all talking to each other, and none of them were doing that, I didn't get much done today while IT sorted through everything to make that possible. But I told my trainer and my office supervisor that it was just the first day, if I got work done that was great, if it was just me coming in to get to know everyone and set up direct deposit and sign all the paperwork, that'd be fine too. Which they appreciated. And tomorrow I'll be doing scanning at my workstation, hopefully with headphones on if I manage to wake up early enough to curate my MP3 player.
