Here's how I know it's spring: the doves are back. We're not quite to the Equinox, and Pesach is still weeks away, but there's no arguing with the mourning doves when they come back to their roosting spot.

When I got up, later than I would have liked on account of not setting the alarm, I heard a strange heavy sound on my air conditioner. Not quite the sound of melting snow hitting it. The sounds kept up, and I knew it, right then, and when I went to check - there was a dove. I haven't seen one since last summer.

Last week at the Garden, I watched four Canada geese fly over the forest and come in to land, heading south to their springtime home. Warm sunlight yesterday. And today, the dove.

As much as I like winter, I'm ready for a new transition.
