hannah: (Captain Jack Harkness - darththalia)
Because I haven't got my Wednesday internship anymore - and I need to update my CV soon to reflect that - I took the day to visit the Union Square farmer's market. Which is how I spend newly-found free time. Maybe next week I'll get up early enough to hit up a museum or something.

When I was there, I went to a stand for a sheep farm, and decided to go ahead and ask if they carried milk and not just milk-based products like cheese and soap. The merchant told me she didn't, because of the price - if a quart of yogurt sold for $12, then a quart of milk would go for that much. She wondered if I'd be willing to pay for that, and I told her if it was once, to try it, absolutely. But unfortunately for me, they can't pasteurize milk in quantities that small, and they can't sell it raw, either, since New York City merchants need special licenses for that.

A guy at the stall next to me then piped in: "It's easier to buy medical marijuana in this neighborhood than raw milk."

The visit to the market was worth it for that quote alone. I ended up buying mutton, cheese, and yogurt from her, and a decent non-essential haul at other stands - some heirloom apples I'd never tried before, fresh garlic, local dried beans, ground turkey for chili. Monday has more vegetable stands, so I won't be transferring my grocery shopping day just yet - but I'll have to go back again some other Wednesday, because it's surprisingly creamy yogurt.
