Not actually your friend.
Jan. 25th, 2010 11:38 pmWhen I first got out of bed this morning I wasn't actually certain if I'd slept or not, which should've been my first clue it wouldn't be a good day.
Work was pretty good all around: I figured out what I'd been doing incorrectly and managed to fix it, and spent a lot of the day alone in the lab listening to Gene Krupa and Great Big Sea online radio stations. The rosemary-raisin bread I baked went over well with everyone who had a loaf, and I had one for lunch instead of the sweet potato mash I'd brought with me. That went well enough, and then I got back to the house.
Turns out the virus that Dell supposedly wiped off the computer Saturday night came back, and I had to wrangle with Norton antivirus because they'd blocked Livejournal and then Dell because I have a warranty with them and wouldn't have to pay for an additonal set of services. That took the better part of four hours, which killed my plans for a nice, somewhat lazy evening - compounded with the dryer shutting down.
My landlady let me use her dryer in the other half of the duplex, and Dell got the virus off again, and I had a very late dinner of red lentil soup. I still feel jittery and scared. My computer is how I communicate and work, and Livejournal is where my friends are, and right now I'm backing up my photos, music, and latest draft of my Big Bang story. If I were in a slightly different financial position I'd start looking into getting another laptop, but in all probability I'll just keep the external hard drive secure and have the IT department wipe my computer and start from scratch all over again in a couple of weeks since my computer suddenly disavowed its CD/DVD drive. Although the hardware's probably screwed up, too, what with the mouse and all, but that's much easier to deal with for a large number of reasons.
