Sooner or later.

Today I learned it's brave for a woman to not wear make-up. Who knew?

For context, I was in the bathroom and saw a woman fussing with some lipstick. I told her, "Don't worry, you look fine" - something I do pretty much every time I see a woman fussing with make-up in a bathroom, since they do look just fine and it never hurts to get a random compliment. It didn't hurt this time and got the woman to smile and laugh, so we got to talking a bit - and I told her I didn't wear make-up, not even lipstick. And she said it was a brave thing for a woman to not wear any.

I held myself back from saying I didn't wear any because I don't want to spend the time on it. There's no ulterior motive, no crusade. I just want to spend time on other things.

She said I looked good, and I could tell she meant it, so I guess it's all right.

How brave we are.

Honestly, unless you're on camera (which fucks everything up), I think everyone looks better sans makeup.

Good on you for the random compliments - that's awesome.

I know makeup can help make someone look ravishing, but why would anyone need to look ravishing if they're going to the grocery store or a typical day at the office?

I do what I can. :)

Laziness solidarity! Whoo!

Who knew. Certainly not me. Although, looking at the way my students behave about makeup I can see the attitude. I am, however, just a child of my decade, I never started the habit in the 70s and I don't like to take the trouble on a day to day basis. It is fun, sometimes, to play "dress-up" though.

I was pretty dressed up at the time: good dress, fun boots, hair up in a bun and nice jewelry on. For situations like that, I might wear some lipstick, but I don't really care to learn the skills for that stuff right now.

I admit I use an exfoliating scrub a few times a week, and once in a blue moon put on some lip gloss. Mostly because the kind I have tastes like vanilla soda.

Looking at women and makeup as a male... it has always seemed to be about satisfying external cultural expectations, or ritually building up her self-confidence, rather than much difference in appearance. Other than on-camera, agreed, although even there it seems like more of an indoor-studio-effect.
