Fandom conundrum.

Remix is due in just over two weeks. I've narrowed my choices down to two stories in a fandom I enjoy, either of which would be fun to write and fairly easy to finish with a couple of sessions, but I'm still nervous.

This comes from the fact that I'd be remixing the ideas behind the stories instead of the plots themselves, and I wouldn't be worrying if I hadn't gotten a tiny bit of flack last year for it - someone said it didn't count as a Remix because I didn't follow the plot of the original, but went for the spirit of the idea in "exploring a relationship through sensory information".

I think what I need right now is a pat on the back and the assurance it's all right to go forward with my original plans for this, since I know I can do a good job if I just shed this little bit of nervousness.

Well, the point of remix is to take the story, and write it as your own. So, if you're working from the same concept, that should be fine. It's your story, not a gift to the remixee, although of course you hope they will like it.

*pats you on back* I thought your remix last year paralleled the original plot beautifully. A remix is a re-interpretation in the end. Trust your instincts, Hannah. Whatever you write is going to be gorgeous.

(And, looking at it like that, I haven't written a proper remix in the past 3 years. I wrote around the original plot, if that makes sense. Looks like this year's remix is going the same way, too, assuming I buckle down and finish.)

Do what you want to do. I think your critic misunderstood the nature of the remix.

I think remixing the idea is just as valid as remixing the plot (but then the idea in my stories is always more important than the plot). If you're concerned that you might be breaking the "rules" of Remix, you could always contact a mod. I did that last year, as I wasn't sure I was fitting into the guidelines and I received helpful encouragement.
