I love a lived-in body.

I love a body with wrinkles, scars, and sag. A body that oozes and drips liquid, that sweats and bleeds and stinks. A body that's got hair all over the place, along with freckles, moles, spots, dots, divots, lines, and bumps. Bodies that healed up as best they could and show that off. Bodies that itch and bodies that twitch. Bodies with faces that have laugh lines and crow's feet. Bodies with rough patches, that have proof of bad habits and of surviving those habits. I love a body with hair in all sorts of places and I love a body that's enjoyed some snacks.

I'll freely admit I love handsome and beautiful faces, and I love hands that look like Greek sculpture, and those features are more attractive when they belong to a lived-in body. I'll also say sometimes a face is handsome because the features wouldn't be found on such sculptures, like bulbous noses and too-strong eyebrows. Sometimes a face is beautiful because it's all sharp angles and lines, and sometimes a faces is beautiful because of the way it's framed or shaped by the person's hair, whether it's on their scalp or on their face. I love a face that can't belong to anyone else but the person wearing it, and won't ever be mistaken for someone else's.

Sometimes a beautiful face that'd belong in the Renaissance wing of the Louvre is all the more beautiful for belonging to a person with a lived-in body - a well-kept body that nonetheless shows all the days of all the years it's been around. Accidental souvenirs and deliberate mementos. A body well occupied and a body used to run, to swim, to dance. Sometimes it's the way the body moves that makes it beautiful, in the running and the swimming and the dancing.

It's a body that's largely gone out of American fashion in the last couple of decades, save for the occasional holdout and the outliers of the Jackass franchise. It's a body I enjoy writing about, and it's a body I'd like to see much more of, both in mainstream media and fandom. When the Olympics come around, there's a few moments of celebrating body diversity in the accomplishments of those bodies, and I enjoy that deeply for as long as it lasts. It'd be nice to have it around for more than a few moments every couple of years. It'd be nice if people looked at the bodies in the world around them and took the time to show everyone how wonderful those bodies really are.

Give me a person whose body carries all their days, and I'm very happy to see it.
