It's been a good weekend in some ways and it's been a hard weekend in other ways. There were easy moments and there were bad hours. Overall, it was an intense last three days in every manner of speaking.

Yom Kippur went easily enough, and New Jersey transportation options threw me for a loop.

Two friends came in from out of town and I saw them before and after the holiday, taking a train into New Jersey to see them a bit more today. We talked about fandom developments, Hydra Trash Party, the nature of sin and atonement, the cyclical nature of online spaces, the necessity of suspension of disbelief as supported or required by the narrative, dental hygiene. You know, the usual stuff. It was wonderful to see them in person instead of simply chatting online, and I hope to do it again soon. Especially as being about ten years their senior, and saying that yes I'd been on Yahoo groups, yes I'd read this fic, yes I knew that fic, yes I knew that scandal, yes I'd met that person in passing, one of them said, "Yes, I was there, Gandalf!"

That said, the highlight of the weekend was absolutely this evening, without question. Earlier today, the same one who compared me to Elrond mentioned how when she was into Led Zeppelin RPF about ten years ago, there was an old zine she'd read about where only a few pages had been scanned and uploaded to the internet. She hoped that one day she'd find somebody with a copy so she could read it herself, that someone's grandmother might have it on a shelf and that'd be how it'd happen, how maybe, how hopefully, how she dreamed. I pointed her to a couple of fanzine archive collections and promised I'd invite her to online cons to put her in touch with the serious collectors.

About seven hours later, I was curious about said zine, so I went looking for it. About ten minutes later, I found it.

Much as how ninety percent of magic is knowing one extra fact, this was me knowing exactly where to look. But oh, it's that knowing where to look. Because I didn't find scans of it when I went looking for information about it on Fanlore; I found it'd been transcribed and uploaded to the Archive of Our Own. That was what I sent over to her, and that's what she'll be reading tonight.

I hope it lives up to the dreaming.
