On phone calls.
Mar. 10th, 2024 02:52 pmOne of my less generous moments came the other day when I got a phone call from a number with no caller ID. I couldn't tell if it was a scam or not: the woman on the other end had my name and was calling about something involving my late grandfather, who she also identified by name. I kept my voice firm and kept asking where she was, where she was calling from, what the name of her organization was and what number she had. She wouldn't give me the name of where she worked or a number to call.
She also kept saying "uh" and "um" and I figured anyone who had a good reason for calling someone - a premeditated reason - wouldn't use that kind of filler. They'd just talk. After all, I was just talking.
After four minutes of my holding firm and her stumbling over filler, she finally said she was going to hang up, and I did one of the least kind things I've done in a very long time: I basically barked at her like a dog. I parroted "UH - UH - UH" back at her, loud and angry, and then hung up while, as far as I could tell, she was still on the line.
I figure if she was legit, she'd have known what she was talking about and would've had a recognized number.
In other news, online mattress shopping is stressing me the fuck out and this fucking thing was one of the biggest mistakes I've made in a long time.
