I could use a rain icon.

I deliberately went out this morning at the height of the downpour. It wasn't just about getting fresh eggs, or knowing there wouldn't be many people in line, or some sense of mutual respect that if the farmers trekked out here I might as well show up for them too. My main motivation was to get as wet as I could, and boy howdy, did I ever. I got soaked to the point of needing to change my underwear. My sneakers are still waterlogged. And the feeling of changing into dry clothes was a sublime moment of ecstasy.

I didn't hang out in the rain to take in the smell on account of the groceries I was hauling around. The next time something like this happens, though - just the downpour part, not the deluge or the confirmation of the ongoing breakdown of social infrastructure thanks to the current policies of the politically corrupt - I'll see about setting aside time for that. Because it genuinely is one of the best smells in the world.
