Autumn blogging.
Oct. 30th, 2022 10:26 pmIt was one of those moments of obvious realization that I needed to put into words for myself - it's not that the seasons changed suddenly, it's that the sky clears up and the air is fresh and there's enough sunshine to see it's happened, because the shift in weather is enough to bring about a change in perspective. There's been a few postcard-perfect days here, and after a lull in the weather, soggy rain and skies, the brightness on the leaves is all the more vivid.
The NYBG today was crowded with little kids in costumes, pumpkins, and bright leaves working the color spectrum all the way down the tallest trees. My dad took me there to see the foliage - he'd invited everyone else and I was the only one free, and it worked out better the two of us, walking and enjoying the sounds of the birds and the river. We didn't rush on either end, and the year's chrysanthemums were stunning to behold. As they're gone after tomorrow, I thought it'd be okay to give a couple of them a little pat, and beyond the colors, beyond the shapes, my goodness, are they some of the softest flowers I've ever touched.
