Marking the equinox.

I can read a new recipe and take in every word, I can reread it, I can check it over and over, I can recognize the steps, and because it never said either "grease the pan" or listed "oil for greasing the pan" in the ingredients, what happened was I forgot to grease the pan, and my sense of competence got shot down the drain for most of the afternoon and through the evening. It's salvageable - I lined the pan with crushed almonds, and at least I had a deep glass pie pan hanging around, and it's not going to be a pretty dessert anyway, and I'm bringing it over to my parents' place tomorrow in any case so as soon as it's delivered, it's going to be their problem.

Staying up late and making challah that honestly smells fantastic is helping, too.
