Hand in hand from the wreck.
Jun. 28th, 2022 10:18 pmThe worst part about having a cool bruise on my butt is I can't show it to anyone. Even worse than the trouble of sitting down when it was fresher, or the general ache - it's still pretty dark, and almost heart-shaped. The bruises on my hands and wrists are fading, also, and they're still nearly crayon shaded purple.
Last Saturday, my family - my parents, my younger brother, and myself - went roller skating. I had a good time. Maybe too good a time. I was eager to move, eager to get going, leaning into it and not looking back.
I fell almost immediately.
I got back up right after, though. And kept going.
Fall, skate, fall, skate, keep on skating, get back up. I tried not to keep track. The length of time in between falls got longer and longer, and I always got back up and went right on skating. At least, until the fifth or sixth fall, about thirty minutes in. The previous four or five had hurt, but this one was bad. Maybe they'd been building up, maybe that one really was too much, and whatever the reason, I knew I was done for the day. I was in too much pain to work through, and had to actively focus on stay calm and not getting upset or snappy with anyone. I about managed it.
The suggestion of a family dinner out was raised. I didn't say I wasn't in a position of being capable of making decisions, just kept repeating I was heading back to my apartment.
I'd totally go back and roller skate again. Just not yet. Give me a couple more weeks to heal - my lower back is still grouchy at me, my left knee still voices its discontents, and my left wrist still doesn't like it when I make a strong grip or try a standard push-up. I'll be happy to head back into the rink and see how long it takes for me to fall and get back up.
I've been doing some fairly light, easy workouts with some 20 pound dumbbells I picked up from eBay, to keep the routine going. Also, knuckle push-ups.
In other personal news, the last two days, I've scored some lovely NextDoor hauls from people moving out of their apartments who were only too happy to part with stuff they'd otherwise throw out: olive oil, pasta, salt, chocolate, salmon fillets, spices, herbs, sugar, dish soap, laundry detergent, laundry pods, black tea, green tea, herbal tea, chicken thighs, canned beans, soup, sardines, eggplant spread, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things. And it's a few things I won't need to worry about buying for quite some time.
