Up in the canyons.
Dec. 2nd, 2021 10:01 pmI have a new bed and it feels a bit like a dorm room in here. In a good way, in the best way, of there being so much newness ahead of me. The headboard doesn't go as high as the old one and the runners around the edge of the frame which hold the mattress in place aren't as tall, either. The bed itself is taller, and the drawers underneath it - the main reason I went for this bed, those being offered as a package deal - also go up a bit higher, giving me a bit more space to keep stuff without the drawers overflowing.
I paid the movers an extra surcharge to take out the stupid mat, and walking across hardwood floors in my bare feet, and just seeing so much floor, has me feeling a little bit better about the whole thing and the initial adjustment period.
That, and the drawers slide beautifully. So smooth and sleek. I might not even get any carpeting to go under the bed, they move so well on the hardwood.
I slept in my old bed since I moved into this apartment quite some time ago. Last night didn't get me a lot of sleep: my brain wouldn't turn over, and my stress levels were high. This morning, I got a call giving me a four-hour afternoon window. The movers arrived around two, and were out a little before three.
My old bed was solid black slabs of wood, a footboard that was a flat board all the way across the foot and a headboard that went all the way down to the floor. This has feet, and a headboard which doesn't reach the floor but at least goes all the way down to the bottom of the mattress.
I still want a bit of carpet to go underneath the weights I keep at the foot of the bed. That might be all the carpet I go for.
I haven't slept in it yet. It's still strange to have to go up a little higher to sit on it, and to not have the solid runners as an easy place to put my feet for certain exercises and physical therapy moves. I haven't yet tested its capacity as a piece of furniture where I spent nights reading and sleeping - and because of all these things, I feel okay about giving it a shot.
