Notes from the week.
Sep. 25th, 2021 11:38 pmA four-day novel rejection - submitted Tuesday, rejected today - isn't the fastest turnaround for a rejection I've ever gotten. But it's easily in the top five. I'm going to have to send them a nice reply tomorrow.
A restaurant near me closed earlier this week, and because they were selling everything not nailed down - and they'd have sold that to you, too, if you brought your own hammer - I went over a couple of times to pick up mostly-full containers of olive oil and tequila, mostly-empty bottles of rum and whiskey, and some unopened bottles of wine plus a big box of kosher salt. Whatever I do with this stuff, I know I'm going to have fun with it.
Also of note, yesterday I was out on a bike ride and came across a couple of people handing out granola bars and offering advertisement for a new grocery delivery service that doesn't have certain fees other services have. I asked how the delivery people were paid, and if they were unionized.
The person I spoke to said they knew what I meant by that, but couldn't answer -
"Then you need stronger protections!" I told them.
They laughed, saying they'd been hired by the company, they didn't deliver -
"Then you've got nothing to lose if you speak out!" I said.
I didn't take the flyer. But I took the granola bar. Chocolate chip, for the record. I forgot about it, then found it squished at the bottom of my backpack - which is the best way to eat granola bars, really. Squishing them down like that really opens them up. Releases all the flavors.
