Wednesday updates.
Oct. 21st, 2020 10:31 pmI swapped out computer chairs today. The one I'd been using for the last couple of years had gotten wobbly, the struts starting to pop out of their sockets, and I figured it was time to replace it. That doesn't mean I don't miss it - I keep trying to hook my feet around where the struts used to be - but I'll adjust.
It helps that I scrounged the old chair off the street, and got this new one from a basement, so the total cost is measured only in the time it took to move the chairs around.
Also of note today, I had a moment of being unintentionally harsh, but at least it was funny. For context, I helped my brother with a bread run - he drove to a local bakery, loaded up on unsold bread, and took it to a local shelter, and I waited in the car so it wouldn't be left unattended. On the drive back, my brother had to stop suddenly so we wouldn't hit a biker, but no one was hurt. We pulled up at a red light, and two people in a big pickup truck pulled up next to us. All our windows were down, and it was quiet enough we could hear each other talk.
"You drive like old people," he said to us.
I shrugged, knowing we were borrowing it from our parents. "It's an old person's car," I said as explanation.
He told us we shouldn't have stopped like we had to avoid hitting the biker - "We're in a hurry," he said.
I shrugged again. "If you're in a hurry, you should've left earlier," I told him.
At which point the light turned green, we all left each other's lives, and my brother pointed out how what I said was both very cold and pretty funny. While the guy couldn't have known we stopped to avoid hitting a biker - while I have no idea of what's happening in the guy's life to have put him into a hurry - I honestly didn't mean it to be harsh. Which is why it managed to work.
