hannah: (Sam and Dean - soaked)
I bought a coat yesterday. A beautiful black leather coat, secondhand from Screaming Mimi's on 14th street. I'd already tried one on that didn't fit, but the second one that I walked out with - just fantastic.

I'd gone to a couple of other shops beforehand, because I'm hoping to find a long waterproof coat before winter and it's my hope that if I begin priming myself up to pay attention and start looking now, I might get my hands on one by December. And it happened really fast.

Don't get me wrong: I'm still going to keep looking. This one only goes down to my knees, and I want one that goes to at least the ankles for a good, proper swishing. But man, it was nice to find something that makes me look forward to cold weather so I can wear it out in public.

Apparently the vintage shops were clearing out for Burning Man. I'd think Halloween would be a bigger draw, given the gentrification and commercialization that's overtaken the festival, not to mention the travel expenses. In any case, while it needs a tiny bit of repair work for a small rip, yesterday I got a new coat that I'll hopefully be wearing for years to come.

I also went to a Buffy singalong.

The Gay Geeks of New York collective put on a stage show of "Once More With Feeling" that wasn't anything like what I expected and quite a lot of what I wanted in life. Slaybills were handed out. Tiny cupcakes had little frosting stakes. Everyone sang loud. The high point was "Walk Through the Fire" that used the full company - main actors, backup singers, and all - dancing around the small stage to communicate the feeling of a TV montage to resounding success. They added a second act that was a "ten years later" jukebox musical sequel that involved Anya and Tara as the bloodied Greek chorus, Xander in a sequined minidress, Giles Vogueing, dollar bills tossed out on stage, and plenty of flag-snapping. I'm glad I took the chance to go.

Meanwhile, today I went to the gy, did laundry, put fresh sheets on the bed, cooked dinner for the week, did all the dishes, made tentative plans for volunteer work this week, and now I'm ready for some quality bedtime.
