Marking down the net positives.
May. 13th, 2018 09:54 pmI thought I'd lost a jacket, but it turned out I'd just misplaced it by accidentally forgetting it at my parents' place some weeks back. I hadn't noticed until the slight chill this weekend, and if it'd stayed warm might have taken a few more weeks to realize anything was gone. Still, its whereabouts are known, and I don't have to go to the trouble of finding an exact replacement on eBay.
It was a stressful few hours for thinking it lost, though, because as much as it's an easily replaceable object, it still spoke to some signal that I'd been careless and lost something and I didn't know where or how it had happened. I knew, worst-case scenario, it's lost out somewhere in New York, and I didn't know, how long ago did I forget it and where was it last seen and can I trust myself with nice stuff - and while I can get it back tomorrow, the bite of that still lingers.
Also, a pigeon flew at my face and clipped me with its toes, which wasn't fun. It was a sterile pigeon in the bird rescue center and it was the surprise that hurt the most. But I still figured, all right, I'm done for the day. Time to stress-fold laundry to Buffy podcasts.
Still, in unambiguously good news, someone in my building complimented my t-shirt. I told her she could easily buy it online and she demurred, saying it wouldn't work for her because I was cool.
Because I was cool.
I played it - well, I played it cool, saying that like the shirt says, coolness comes from within, and she laughed and agreed with me.
And someone else at the bird center said I was great for bringing in the goodies all the time. Which itself was great. I joke I bring in baked goods to offset that I won't work with the hatching and juvenile pigeons, which is true enough, and it's just as true I like bringing in stuff because I know people enjoy it.
So I guess today works out as a net positive.
So I wrote it down here to look at later when I'm in a low place and need the reminder.
