Stony lonesome.
May. 11th, 2015 10:10 pmI walked the soles off my shoes today, leaving them skid-compliant and leading to me sliding into a pair of bruises on my knees thanks to some linoleum floors. The working day had little to keep me engaged in what I was doing, and it was hard to focus my attention on much of anything, whether it was my job or just pondering current fandom projects.
So I left the building tired and sore inside and out.
Then I walked past some lilacs still in bloom that I ran my fingers over, taking pleasure in how the petals were just as soft as the scent. And I looked up, and saw a peregrine falcon circle around and around and disappear behind a cathedral tower. I took a different route back through the park, underneath trees in full fresh green leaves, the sun shining bold on the Hudson river, the last of the cherry and apple blossoms still clinging to the trees. The humidity had broken and the air was cool off the water, the sky was open, and it was the very beginning of summertime in full.
So it wasn't that bad a day after all.
