My new gig is alternately boring, stressful, engaging, and repetitive at turns, and by far the best things I can say about it are that it provides genuine learning experiences and opportunities for archival problem-solving, and that it's getting me to go to the gym more often. It's all the sitting that does it - I need to do something to wash out the feeling of being stuck in a cubicle, and there's really nothing better for it than moving heavy weights around.

I've also started using the gym's elliptical machines. Yes, there's some of the Pacific Rim Jaeger cockpilot thing going on there. More of it's that it doesn't make my hips feel funky the way treadmills do, and it's quiet enough I can listen to podcasts. I'm finally catching up on Welcome to Night Vale, and just finished "Summer Reading Program."

The thing is, I listen to WTNV on an MP3 player, since headphones are the only way to get it loud enough and cut out enough ambient noise I can hear anything. The battery only lasts 16 hours, and it cut out the other day a few minutes into "Summer Reading Program." The thing is, though, it ended up cutting out to better effect than what the program actually had scripted. Right when Cecil said, "Which the town’s older residents will refer to only as -" it stopped dead. Total silence. And for a moment I thought it was something from the world of Night Vale cutting out the very mention of the incident that not even Cecil could say.

Then I realized the battery needed recharging.

Still. There's no way I could ever have paid for that kind of timing.
