Friday musing.
Jul. 19th, 2013 08:08 pmFollowing a successful hip surgery, my grandmother's moved into an assisted living facility for the duration. She's doing some PT, and if it all goes well, she'll be back in her apartment soon enough. My family visited her for dinner, and took a little walk around the building, and my brother and I played a game of pool, modified for our skill level. I won somehow.
It's a nice place, with enough staff for the residents. And late Friday afternoons are rarely periods of bustling activity anywhere. Still, as we walked around, I couldn't help but think, They should teach them vidding here.
An activity which rewards patience and care and attention, which is easy enough to do and difficult to do well, something to invest time and engagement into and hone fine motor control...and if not vidding, then maybe regular weekly meetings of TV shows like The Wire or The Sopranos to be followed by extended discussion of the text. Or icon-making. Basically, fandom to maintain an active mind, is what I'm saying.
Worth a shot.
