Perks of living in New York City.
Dec. 11th, 2012 04:25 pmIn what might be one of the best ideas ever, today I learned Zabar's sells "odds and ends" from their cheese department at $3 a pound. It's little bits left over from larger chunks and wheels that can't be sold individually, but get thrown together in random grab-bags. They've got more cheese mass than you'd think, and it's a whole lot more cheese variety than you can get outside of a catering plate at ten times the price. It's a lot of damn good cheese.
They don't always have them available - buying the two bags currently resting in my fridge was just good timing on my part. And I'm a little glad I stopped at just two bags, because I can almost hear it calling to me. Practically a siren song.
