hannah: (Toast and butter - obsessiveicons)
Tonight's gazpacho was a beautiful success. The recipe I used won't ever be something I can make entirely from fresh market ingredients - aside from pantry staples like salt and olive oil, it calls for both Tabasco and Worcestershire sauces, and the climate I'm in now means cucumbers and celery won't be in season at the same time. That doesn't do anything to diminish how much fun it was to eat and to make, and how much I hope to try it again next week.

I also made a small loaf of a whole-wheat quickbread that tasted almost exactly like Rosh Hashanah honey cake, which is completely unsurprising as it called for honey as the sweetening agent without any refined sugar. I didn't have any raisins on hand, so I subbed in dried cherries instead, which offset the sweetness nicely.

Procrastination on cover letters through cooking and baking: something I'll probably do again tomorrow. Although given that I only have a half-dozen in the current batch, I'll probably be able to force myself to get to them without losing too much sleep.
