Rolling in.
Nov. 20th, 2011 11:42 pmLet me go on record saying Take Shelter is well worth the full ticket price. It's one of the best movies I've seen in months - something that knew what it was, the story it wanted to tell, and how best to tell it. To sum it up, it's a very simple movie: a man slowly losing touch with reality while being aware of that while it's happening. There isn't much more that goes on in the movie than what's involved with that. No car chases, no gunfights, no twenty-minute montages of explosions. Just someone's world coming apart.
It's a character study and quiet drama that also works as a piece of psychological horror. Because of its construction, there's no way to escape. I was really impressed with the camerawork - there were a number of scenes where the camera was left on a character while they talked without cutting away to anyone or anything else, which isn't something that happens too much in movies anymore. There wasn't much music, either, and without any background soundtrack, there's nothing to do but lean in close and listen and hope it's nothing out there.
If there's a chance to see it, go. You don't have to just take my word for it, either.
And this song is just amazing.
