Pack it in.

Last spring I finally retired the winter boots I got in Pittsburgh back in 2008, since they'd given up and worn out - after three winters of being the only shoes I wore for about five months at a stretch, I'd say they were due. Getting fifteen months of daily hard use out of a pair of shoes is a pretty good deal. So I wanted a replacement pair.

The store didn't have them in stock in my size or preferred color, and the other model from the company they had in stock used a zipper instead of laces, which made the whole thing feel very strange since the sensation wasn't dispersed but concentrated in a thin band over the foot. So I took in the sock selection, sighed, ghand left without buying anything.

Turned out I'd forgotten my wallet back at my place, so I couldn't have bought shoes I didn't want even if I'd made the decision to do so.

I'm not sure if that counts as ironic or appropriate.
