Another fandom in need of some icons.

I'm thinking about putting together a pimp post for Team Fortress 2, mostly so other people will have some idea of what I'm talking about. Spreading the joy is a secondary concern to having someone to talk with.

Does anyone who's done such a promotional piece have any advice which they're willing to give? I know I can't do any effective pimping by bouncing around and yelling in glee - even though this is a rare fandom that actually gets me to do that, and given that's so uncharacteristic I know that's got to count for something. I also know that most people need more than base enthusiasm to be willing to take the plunge into something new, even if all the canon fits easily into 30 minutes. Forty, if your internet connection is being slow.

So any advice? Should I sit down and write a 2000-word expository essay, or put together a collection of nifty quotes and images and videos? Some mix of both? Inquiring minds full of hope want to know.
