Midwest turn.
Oct. 5th, 2010 11:42 pmThere's a store on Madison Avenue that has various items from the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company in the front window displays. Until today, I'd no idea immortality was sold by the gallon, or that it came with government warnings. Live and learn.

In thinking about this big rant, and with having some time to cool off, I think the simple differentiation I was trying to get at is like the two-panel history of art. Some posts of joy and delight are just statements of those feelings, declarations, "Look." And some others are designed to draw others' attention, explanations, "Look at this." It's when the explanations are written as declarations and involve lots of single-word sentences - "And. And. But. Yet." - or other poor constructions or a general lack of clarity that gets to me. I can't pick up on what's trying to be communicated, and that leaves me angry and upset.
In retrospect, I should've ranted, locked the post to 'private' and then said what I figured out this afternoon in a much calmer frame of reference. Still, it felt good to get that rant out of me.

Last night I substituted duck for beef in this recipe. Since duck fat isn't marbled into the meat, but comes more like blubber, I had the bright idea to save some and use that for frying instead of canola oil. And it was amazing. Such a good clean flavor, so delicious. I'd no idea the meat itself was so tender, or that the fat would be so fun to work with. Thankfully, I've got quite a bit of it saved for later.
