I just attempted a "sniff test" on a jar of Marmite to find out if it was still good.

Then it hit me: how could I tell?

If it doesn't have anything growing on it then it's OK to eat.

It helps if you scrape the top layer off because that's sometimes oxidized a bit which changes the flavour.
