Sunday night.
The annual ALA conference is coming up next week. So far, I have a ticket to get into the conference, a room near the conference, but no way to get from here to there. At this point, in all probability, I'm going to get a Greyhound ticket and use a taxi to get from that station to the hotel. I know someone who said he'd drive me from the hotel to the conference itself, so there's that, which might do the trick. And there's always the Metro.
But there's still the knowledge that this was a bad idea from the start and I should find some way to get a refund because there's no way any of this is going to be at all useful since nobody has anything to help. I'm not sure if I want to throw up or call some ALA number and yell at someone for not providing anything useful. Maybe both.
ETA: In retrospect, I should've said "the conference is in Washington, DC" about three months ago, since I know people in the area who have firsthand information on navigating its public transportation. People that also have cell phones and instant messenger clients.

the_dala held my hand through using the Metro website and then kindly offered me some space in her apartment for a few nights. I'm canceling the hotel deposit and putting that towards some other form of transportation - probably an airplane, given how little time it'd take for me to get from here to there with one.
Wow. I guess I should get better at this whole "asking for help" thing. And I'd better look up some cookie recipes, since she deserves something damn fine for this.

I needed help navigating websites that intimidated me, and knowledge of the area, and someone came along who helped with both. So I'm feeling much better off than I did forty minutes ago, when I was crying face-down onto the bed.
