Sunday late night.

This morning when I was doing some yardwork for my dad, raking up dead leaves, I happened to look down at just the right time at the right angle to see a ladybug hiding in one of the plants. I called him outside to look at it, and then I somehow looked up at just the right time and right angle to see a scrub jay with a big bug in its beak, and watched it hop through the branches to its nest, where it fed the bug to two large chicks.

I'm going to miss having private front and back yards, but it's nice to know there's always going to be room for surprise ecology.

Also, Iron Man 2 made me realize there ought to be a crossover between the movies and the webcomic Girl Genius - "Adventure! Romance! MAD SCIENCE!" - with Agatha and Tony shennanigans. I've been thinking about it since I got out of the theater on Friday, where Agatha and Tony would bond over coffee and talk about death rays and short-range and long-range weapons, and Gil and Pepper would go on tangents about wrangling their problem individuals, and Happy Hogan and Airman Third Class Axel Higgs would just go out for drinks. Then Agatha could build Jarvis a clank body and get in an argument with Tony over the design. It'd be suitably awesome. I'm not sure how it would happen, but maybe the information from the clip after the credits will help someone think of a solution.

We did a lot of yard work Saturday. Our patio is enclosed in a privacy fence and we tend to go "out of sight, out of mind" at the end of summer. By spring, it's a mess, so we raked a huge pile of leaves out of there and added all the shrub clippings to it to start a compost pile.
