Work it on out.
In thinking about the future bearing down on me and what I'd like to do when I get out of school, I've decided I want a job where I do things. What I mean by that is being able to point to something at the end of the day, or week, or whatever, and say "I did that." To be able to produce some work - even if it's a small part of a project that won't be finished for a long time - is what would make me happy. Not necessarily something where telecommuning would be impossible the way it is with my current job, but something where there wouldn't be so much pushing paper and holding meetings and more interacting with the actual work itself. So I guess that cuts out most management positions. I'd also love something that wouldn't have me taking work with me, since I've fantasized about not having take-home essays since high school, but that might just be wishful thinking.
Related to that as a tangental promise to my dad and the hope to get a job before my older brother starts his own graduate career, I'm going to start devoting much more time to the hunt proper, beginning tomorrow morning. I can't do several hours of sustained searching, narrowing, and writing and editing cover letters, but I can in a few chunks throughout the day, and hopefully that'll help me get some personal momentum.
