Weekend wrap-up.

Friday morning I didn't have any idea what I'd be getting into by getting out of bed. I thought it'd be a slow, quiet day but it turned out to be one of the bigger ones I've had in a while. It started out with meeting a friend from work, C, for lunch at a local place, which was on the agenda, and swiftly became something else entirely when two people I knew from classes came to the same restaurant, Z and L. Nobody knew the other group would be there, and while I'd made plans to eat there about a week ago they'd just decided to head out that morning. It's a small neighborhood, and it's an insular program, but this was just ridiculous. So we all sat together for lunch, joking and laughing and sharing drinks.

The four of us walked around for a bit until L had to leave to run errands, so C, Z, and I went to the movies together. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is pretty much the anti-Avatar, and while it's not happy or uplifting, it's rich and tasty and deeply intimate. Then the three of us went out for cupcakes and sweet treats at Dozen, and moved from talking about the movie to talking about the movie and desserts.

C and Z had leftovers from lunch, which we'd put in my fridge on account of it being two blocks from the movie theater, so we came back to the house for them to pick up their stuff. I had about an hour and a half alone before someone came to pick me up for her birthday party. [livejournal.com profile] letters_in_sand came to pick me up to go out ice-skating with several of her friends, which was more fun than I'd thought it'd be. I'd have liked it more if there were fewer people or more ice, but I still got the chance to zip around the rink. Turns out dropping into a deadlifting position really does help with balancing. I skated for about an hour and even though it's been years since I've gone skating I didn't fall once.

There was going to be cake at the rink, but there wasn't a place to eat it, so I nominated my large dining room. It turned out to be a good idea, not only because there was enough space for nine people to sit and lounge around inside, but also because my housemates left several shopping bags of discarded clothes out in the main living room - and being the hipster generation we all were, I brought the bags out and we played dress-up, throwing clothes around the room and putting on bedsheet togas and having a blast on too much sugar and finding stuff that was fun and funny to wear.

Saturday, all I did was walk through a local park, browse through the library and some bookstores, and generally recharge from all the social activity. Sunday was a bit more complicated, with a trip to campus to do some research followed by a visit to the gym, with the day's excitment coming from an unplanned, store-bought, and delicious chicken-salad sandwich.

Then the wireless fizzed out around eleven-thirty when I was doing research into travel plans for February, and didn't get back up until about eleven this morning. Thankfully, I managed to sleep through most of it.

Today I went grocery shopping, hit the gym, did laundry, cooked dinner, and finished the rough draft of one of two assignments due Friday. I should be in bed right now, but some posts are time-sensitive, at least in my worldview. And I wanted to share before anything else happens.
