Today's requisite anecdote.
I got surprised by a murder of crows on the way to work today: I heard them cawing and spun around to look at them fly off behind some houses. Someone was walking behind me, and said they wouldn't come after me, and I said they might be after a hawk. This impressed him, and we did a bit of trash talking about 'city kids' that don't walk or look around. He asked if I was from around here, and I said no.
"From the hinterlands," he said, almost as a question.
"You could say that," I said, hiding my smile.
