Fading away.

To start, my younger brother R. and his wife G. are fine. There's no harm done, they're both doing well, absolutely okay. The car's a lost cause, though, and even that's not such a bad thing because it's a rental and they got good insurance and it wasn't their fault. Yesterday there was a combination of ice and other cars having crashed that had them involved in a set of events that had the rental car totaled and the two of them coming out of it fine. They're visiting her family upstate, and her family can drive them around the area when they need to get somewhere.

My dad called to tell me this, not my brother.

On some level, I'm glad to hear they came out of it without bodily harm.

On another, louder level, I'm confused why my dad thought to tell me about this. Largely because they weren't hurt. He began his story with that, too, and the way he did it made the whole thing sound like a non-event. Like he was calling me not to relay a story, but to tell me nothing had happened. As such, I'm still puzzling over why he called me. Much less why it wasn't my brother who relayed the information about his non-event. I'm sure there's a set of reasons; whatever they are, I can't parse them out right now.

I'm glad they're ok, but that is an odd way to share the news. why make your dad the middleman, instead of just contacting you directly?
