Currency rates.
Earlier today, someone approached me in the laundry room to ask where I bought my quarters. I told her I got them from the bank. She asked if she thought the grocery store would have any; I said they might, but she'd probably do better to wait to go to the bank on Monday.
She didn't have it in her to wait another day and said she'd just go to the grocery store.
I pulled the extra $10 roll of quarters I'd brought down with me in case of towel-drying emergencies and told her if she had a $10 bill, I'd trade her. Ten dollars is ten dollars. She offered Venmo, apologizing that she didn't carry cash around. I said I'd be happy to wait for her to check her apartment, and she lit up and dashed off.
She had a $10 bill in her apartment, and she insisted I take an additional dollar bill out of sheer gratitude. Not one to turn down a dollar, I accepted graciously, happy to help and more than a little pleased to prove cash is still king.
