Shocked in the suburbs.

Four years after the rush, I bought a store out of toilet paper.

Let me explain: another store in my neighborhood is leaving, and this time it's a corner bodega. Instead of maintaining a good long-term, many-decades business, the landlord raised the rent, so they've been slowly winding down for the last couple of weeks before they close for good in a few days. They're at the point of not ordering anything new and once something's gone, there's no restocking it. No more canned soups. No more fresh bok choy.

And, as of today, no more toilet paper. At least, no more of the packs - they might still have a few single rolls off in a corner. But the spirit remains.

They're still selling fresh-brewed pour-it-yourself coffee, so I keep stopping buy to get some. I figure when they've stopped selling coffee, that's when they're really gone.
