Uplifting moments.

On the subway ride back from Brooklyn tonight, I saw something I usually see in a car, not a subway train: rain falling down a window. Somehow enough water made its way underground to hit the subway car and land on the window that the train's momentum had it move across the glass, not just down as it'd do if gravity was the only force acting on it. I don't think anyone else saw it happen, and it wasn't for very long - just a few minutes in between express stops. But it was enough to notice and feel an echo of what it was like to ride in the backseat of a car at night going home.

My best guess is that the train passed underneath a grate and some water fell through to land on the car. There's plenty of trains and a lot of grates they pass beneath, and there was enough rain tonight to provide enough water for all the windows in the car on both sides. It wasn't that rarefied a set of circumstances. Except I don't think I've ever seen it before on a wholely subterranean ride. It was a lovely thing to catch.
