Practical economics.

In buying some hard cider with cash this afternoon, it turned out that the shop - half beer store, half bar - was out of coins. I said I didn't mind rounding the cost up to the nearest dollar, but they rounded down for me. $16 instead of $17. And in buying some cheese a bit later, the dollar bill I got from the shop kept me from having to use two twenties to pay $21.61 in cash.

As balancing acts go, it's one of the tidier ones I've pulled off recently. And now I've got both cider and cheese.
