Sunday night.
Having spent most of the day out on a hike with my parents that was, all in all, fairly spectacular, I found myself too tired to do laundry today. It was either laundry or write, and I picked getting some words out. The laundry will happen tomorrow.
This isn't unprecedented. There have been a handful of times I didn't do laundry on the designated day because I was similarly tapped out from travel. But it's been rare enough to note it here.
Of note on the hike was a beaver dam and house, a small green frog, several millipedes, a dead dismembered woodpecker, fish in a creek, the sight of the Hudson Valley cut through the horizon and covered by trees, and a rat snake. The snake was kinked up in a defensive posture, utterly motionless, and it still surprised me - I stopped on the trail to make sure my parents would see it, too, and we all marveled at the sight. Such a gorgeous creature.
