Digital scrapbooking.

I was combing through my Tumblr likes last night, as one does, looking for stuff I didn't want to hold onto anymore and items I wanted to reblog to keep better track of, and as I was scrolling through, the number dropped by nearly a hundred items. Not because of anything I was doing, because my queue, scheduled items, discarded posts, and reblogs didn't total as much as suddenly dropped - my hands-on stuff covered about sixty things, while the sudden drop was another eighty. More or less, rounding to the nearest big number.

I thought that Tumblr was going to be Tumblr, I knew what I signed up for, and went to bed.

This morning, someone posted about a friend of theirs getting their blog suspended for no reason they could figure out - a harassment campaign was their best guess, and even that was just conjecture.

It struck me as a reasonable idea, what with Tumblr being Tumblr, that deleted blogs would lower my 'likes' count if the posts I'd liked aren't there anymore.

With some free time this afternoon, I queued up a bunch more stuff, thinking I'd better get it collected or else it might vanish on me. It was a good way to wait for laundry to dry, and it was also a delight to sift through and remember where I was and what'd been going on with me during different phases. This was when I was upstate last summer, this was when that movie came out or that episode dropped, this was when I went looking for this hashtag because I'd first heard this one song. It's been a fun afternoon for something that's not quite nostalgia. Just happy memories of what I'd decided to keep.

Though as much fun as it is combing through those likes and seeing big chunks of stuff I'd collected and having a good time remembering the surrounding circumstances, I think I'd like keeping track of the stuff even more.

I didn't know you could go back through likes that way. I mean, it seems obvious, but I never thought about it. Do you just unclick the heart when you're no longer interested? That's cool.
